Garden
If you are planning to elope, or if you prefer the simplicity of a small wedding with only a handful of friends, you may want to take consider a ceremony in the ‘Promises Garden’ at the Angel Ladies’ Cottage.
Nestled under the protective embrace of a generations-old spruce, the garden is a shady and secret haven, known only to a select few. The air is perfumed all summer long by the fragrance of vintage lilacs, roses, honeysuckle and other blossoms as each blooms in its time.
The Secret Garden is not a grand, professionally designed feat of landscape architecture and manicured lawn. Instead, it is a homey cottage garden, originally planted long ago, which lay forgotten and neglected for many years and was only recently rediscovered. As the beds were cleared of weedy debris, the garden was painstakingly nurtured and tended by the Angel Ladies and, finally, coaxed once more into flower.
Now, in its scented recesses, you and your beloved may whisper your vows safe from the wondering glances of passers-by, heard only by the birds and perhaps a curious chipmunk or butterfly. Love’s magic is well matched in the Secret Garden, where visitors are transported from the hustle of busy Niagara-on-the-Lake to a place of timeless serenity and unforgettable peace.
This cozy hideaway garden is available only to wedding parties of eight or fewer, including the happy couple.
Also available, in case of rain or for those who wish an indoor setting, is the sitting room at the Angel Ladies’ Cottage, where couples may wed beside the fireplace. There, the Rose Angel tapestry offers a beautiful backdrop for lovers’ vows murmured beneath that angel’s gentle gaze. The sitting room is a warm and comfortable space for couples and up to six guests and, like the Secret Garden, is suitable for photographs.
Note: Parking in Niagara-on-the-Lake is at a premium, and we are able to offer the couple parking for only two cars. We suggest that guests and couple assemble, perhaps at a local restaurant, and carpool over. Some parties prefer to leave their cars at the hotel and walk the few steps from downtown to The Angel Ladies’ Cottage. A romantic alternative is to reserve a horse and carriage from Sentineal Carriages, who can offer transportation to and from the Cottage.
